Promises Promises

The turf has barely been binned, the accounts are now balanced and we are already onto our next piece of work.  Next week will see a script reading of PROMISES PROMISES by Douglas Maxwell as part of the Tron Lab.

The script is, fingers crossed, going to be another great offering coming to a theatre near you in the future (funding permitting).  We absolutely love the script and cant wait to hear it read to an invited audience, we have the lovely Joanna Tope performing the script.  We'll keep you posted on how its all going.

As the righteous Phil Collins once said - One More Night

And what a classic that song was.

Well, we are now down to our final night for MARYMASSACRE and things have went smashing.  Great audiences and very positive responses (whispers have begun to a potential tour so we will keep you posted!).

A wee story to keep you bemused:  picture the scene - its a psychic tent seance.  Jo is calling out, invoking the spirits when CRASH SMASH SCREAM.  Yes, its no in the script but the festoon lighting has hurtled down from the ceiling and crashed onto the floor.

My wee cousin (who was in that night) thought we had the same tech team as 'Phantom Of The Opera' and commented on the effect.  The smattering of juices that were fermenting out my body revealed it was not a planned event.  However the show must go on and all that nonsense - so it did!  No injuries, no insurance claims, no clean underwear for me!

Ah well only one more to go.  Hopefully we'll see some familiar faces down there tonight!

Ciao for now

And we're off....

It's the night before opening and things are looking great.  As is always the way everybody looks about 430 years old and I have literally been eating anything that is within a 100m radius.  Ticket sales are going well - so BOOK NOW anyone who hasn't done so already!  I'm off to hit the hay, and will wake up refreshed, revived and with lashings and lashings of touche eclait on the eyes to not scare people.

We'll keep you posted on how first night went.  Hopefully we might even see you in the bar afterwards!

One week to go

Can you believe it? Its flown in and now we are on the 7 day countdown until the show opens. As promised (albeit later but hey nobody's perfect!) here's a sneaky peak of the Marymassacre show - it was taken on the first day of rehearsals!

Enjoy

Big Mother's Picnic

And its Friday of week one already - how did that happen?

As is always the way, what starts off as a show with 'no props to source thank you' has become a mammoth shopping list (and of course the rather dubious conversation as to whether to buy out of Asda or M&S). Yes, it appears that Marymassacre is going to be a lovely wee day for a picnic: which means that poor Josie and Kim will be, by the time the show opens, ready to boak if they have to drink another glass of Schloer or eat more pate.

Julie's also been running like Linford (in his lunchbox days) down to the HAC to work with the local cast who are playing the cameo roles in the show. Its all going tickety-boo, stress-free, no over-time and everybody is having a lovely time. However, we're just about to have a budget meeting - will the candy-floss machine survive the credit-crunch? Will that coffee bought from Cranberries on the first day break the budget? Have I remembered to budget for a van to take the set back and forth? Time will tell, and as always, lessons will be learned!

I'm off for that meeting - we should have the trailer for Marymassacre by the weekend for you all.

Tatty-bye for now

PS Cups of coffee consumed yesterday - only 2! We're all now becoming tea-jennies instead.

Day 1 in The Mary Mother House

And we are officially off and running...

Today was day one of rehearsals for Marymassacre - its a wee bit mad to think we open in just over two weeks. The read through was great, the set model looks smashing, the LX design is off and running and we've started blocking (and also filmed a short trailer for your consumption - look out for this later in the week). We're channelling the style of a 1950s picnic, throwing in a wee touch of Ghost and I'm out with the skipping ropes trying to get fit with a morning warm-up.

Will we get a dodgem car to run across the grass? Will I make any more script cuts because its been over-written? Will Julie's To Do List grow so large that we won't be able to get through the door? Only time will tell...

Cups of coffee-consumed today: 10 (2 of which were minging powdered lattes - a lesson has been learned: don't buy these!)

Love to you all,
Johnny x
